A couple Calgary shows coming up with some great ska bands ska bands from across the country. July 2 at Dickens, we’ll be playing with The Skinny from Montreal as well as reggae act Tasman Jude from Grande Prairie.
August 1, our friends the Bone Daddies from BC will be joining us at Vern’s for a night of ska.
We’ll also be heading out west ourselves at the end of July to spread a little ska and see how many hours we can spend together in a handi-bus before we start to hate each other and break up the band. Catch us in Kamloops on July 21, at the Music in the Park, on July 22 in Kelowna at Fernando’s pub, or on July 25 in Vancouver at the Railway club. More shows and more details will hopefully be announced in the near future.
Also the Calgary Beer Core just released a compilation album which features 32 amazing Calgary bands, including yours truly. Pick one up from us the next time you see us or at any Calgary Beer Core show. The CBC (that’s Calgary Beer Core not the broadcasting corp.) did a spot promoting the comp on the Calgary Herald’s Bandwagonish podcast, which features us. Check it out: http://blogs.calgaryherald.com/2014/06/27/mike-bells-podcast-on-the-local-music-scene-bandwagonish-featuring-jim-martin-from-the-calgary-beer-core/
We’re spending January working on some new tunes, so make sure to come check us out at Dickens on February 22. We’re excited to be joined by Dope Soda, who are making their way east from Victoria. I’ve managed to catch them a couple times at Victoria’s ska festival and they have really unique and cool sound that I highly recommend you check out. Also joing us are our dear friends and local ska artisans Hats & Black Ties and Delerium, so if you’re a fan of the ska genre, then this is most definitely a show you do not want to miss.
Come help us celebrate our centennial show! Yes, it’s Class Action 100th show and yes apparently we do keep track of these things. Joined by our good friends The Special Edisons and Robot Workers, we’ll be rockin’ the D on Friday Dec. 27, 2013. We are stoked and hoped to have some exciting things to make number 100 special. See you then!
Class Action is returning to Canmore in what seems like years, probably because it has actually been four or five years, what are we doing with ourselves. Anyways, we’re excited to be back and playing the glorious Canmore Hotel. Come join us for a couple sets with our new lineup. We’ll be throwing pretty much everything we got at this one.
Ladies and gentlemen it is about freaking time for an update. 2013 has been an interesting year for Class Action, we saw the departure of some good friends, Tom and Scott (both drums) and Chad (guitar and vocals) as well as the return of a dear friend on trombone (Nate). Obviously we found someone else to sit behind us and wail on things in long time friend of the band Tracey. So for the past couple months we have kept quiet, except to my neighbours, transitioning into this new version of Class Action. For the first time ever, our horn section is larger than our rhythm section, which frankly as a member of the rhythm section scares the hell out of me, I am certain they are planning some kind of coup. Honestly though, I can say that I am more excited about the direction and future of this band than I have been in a long time. We have some really exciting things on the horizon that we will announce soon. In the meantime checkout last week’s episode of 23 minutes of ska, www.23ska.com
We’re stoked to be playing the Ship & Anchor with two amazing ska bands, The Resignators and Suburban Legends. Trust me you won’t want to miss this. Plus NO COVER! Show starts at 9.
I wish we had an ampersand in our name. Maybe we should be Class Action & the Class Actions?
Class Action will be on at 10:30pm on Friday May 10th (second day of festival).
With locals Whiskey Wagon
Also with Hats and Black Ties, and Robot Workers!
